Welcome to the first edition of the Glanville Golf Club “News”, a monthly newsletter to keep you

“News” will be available each month and contain information about competitions held at Glanville,
information about forthcoming events and people at the course.

You will have noticed that we have expanded the competitions at Glanville and increased the value of
prizes, to make it more rewarding and exciting for all players. Do you want more??
We invite those involved in business to consider sponsoring competitions at our course by either
offering prizes for current competitions or by sponsoring new events.
The more prizes we have to offer, the more fun it is for everyone.
The weekly 50 cent competition has been expanded and you can enter any day of the week.
The weekly prize for both men and women is now a choice between a small trophy or a free 9 hole
round of golf. There are new monthly prizes, with a free 9 hole voucher to the Best Clubman and
Best Clubwoman for the month, a random draw prize and there is a new season prize of a return
trip for two to Melbourne. To encourage weekend participation, we have kept the price for a round

SAGLA News
On March the 12th the SAGLA Par 3 winter pennants competition kicked off with all three Glanville
sides playing at home. The Go Getters lost to last years premiers, the Sharks ,in a close tussle
that came down to the last holes in each match. Unfortunately the more experienced Sharks
held on to record a 4 ˝ to ˝ victory. The other match was a local derby which saw the newly
formed Cobras easily account for the Eagles, 5-0.
For those who don’t know, SAGLA stands for South Australian Golfers League Association
and is open to all who play Par 3 golf. It is a unique competition with men, women and juniors
playing together in a citywide pennants comp and it’s a fantastic way to meet people and
seriously improve your game against tough opposition. The season goes from March through
til September and is the premier Par 3 golf competition in the State

Ladder after round 4	won	dr	match won	PTS

GLANVILLE PAR 3 GOLF CLUB

Future Vision

We live in an era where time is precious and where golf is in decline in most areas. Many
golfers can no longer afford the luxury of 5 hours at the course, but most can find the 40
minutes or so it takes to play a quick 9 holes at a Par 3 course.
But, the problem is that there is no structure in the Par 3 community. Good players want to
compete against the best, in their State, nationally and internationally. Parents want their
children to be able to progress to higher levels.
Par 3 doesn’t have a structure to accommodate these needs.
At Glanville, we are trying to do something about this problem. This year we have managed to
put together 3 SAGLA teams, and are looking for a 4th in 2006. We are encouraging our
juniors to join SAGLA teams.
I am currently in discussion with courses interstate to create a National Par 3 league for
Oct/Nov in 2006 and we hope to have a Glanville side in that comp. I am also looking to
forge links with interstate Par 3 clubs so we can visit them and vice versa.
Talks are under way for an annual State Par 3 championship with different age divisions to
cater for players of all ages, and from there it’s a logical step to a national championship.
And if that is not enough… we are currently organizing International Challenge matches
against Par 3 courses around the world, and are negotiating to allow an entry from South
Australia to compete in the World Cup for short course golf to be held in Spain in March
2006.
To conclude, I believe there is a huge future for Par 3 golf and we at Glanville are at the
cutting edge of the development of this sport, trying to make it more exciting, challenging
and fun for everyone – and to give those who want somewhere to go in this sport a path
to the top.
There will be plenty of fun on the journey ahead, thanks for joining us.
